These Six Pieces for Toy Piano and String Quartet were composed in Winter and Spring of 2011, and were inspired mostly by the peculiar instrument itself upon acquiring one during the Winter. Each of the six pieces is very short, ranging from about 20 seconds up to just over a minute. Each piece seeks to exploit the connotations of the toy piano rather , by introducing childlike melodies and naïve resolutions to each idea. In each movement, quick fragments of previous movements appear, connecting the movements in a deliberately jarring and humorous way.
